January 01 2021 – Lindsey Neill
Welcome to the first week of the Be Mine Sewalong! Oh, and Happy New Year!! 🎉 We’re kicking off 2021 with some Heart Blocks! 12 of them to be exact!
Here are a few time-saving tips for piecing your Heart Blocks:
Don’t over think your fabric combos. This week you are combining two colors/prints in each Heart Block and as long as you have some contrast between them you are good. It will all work out in the end. I promise!
Chain piece! Fun fact - You can snowball all three corners on your C pieces BEFORE trimming the seam allowance. AND! You can sew the border pieces on each side before pressing. So, stay seated, sew, sew some more, AND THEN get up to trim or press.
Speaking of snowballing corners, don’t mark your diagonal seams. Instead use the washi tape method mentioned in the pattern or EVEN BETTER get yourself some Cluck Cluck Sew Diagonal Seam Tape! It's a game changer!
Here are my first 12 blocks! I am making my quilt with the Kona solids Gold, Primrose, Navy, Natural, Fog, and Cadet.
Next week we are making 12 more Heart Blocks!
(NOTE: The original schedule had a typo and said 13 blocks for Week 2. Save or screenshot the updated schedule below to reference for the remaining weeks)
If you have a moment, please check out the sponsors of the sewalong below! They have all made very generous contributions to the grand prize ❤ If you haven’t seen what the grand prize is yet, check that out HERE!
Happy sewing! See you all next Friday for Week 2!
