Happy Sunday! It's Month 1 of the Just My Type QAL and we're kicking it off by making either 2 Typewriter blocks or 8 Letter/Heart blocks! Or, in my case, daisy blocks! I'm customizing my quilt in a couple ways and one of them is by replacing the heart blocks with daisies. I love hearts, but if given the choice between hearts or flowers, I'm always going to pick flowers 💐🌹🌺🌼🌻 Even if it means WAY more piecing 😂
If you also want to add a daisy block to your Just My Type quilt, you'll first want to grab the block pattern HERE and then refer to the diagram below for border measurements. And if you're new to paper piecing, you might find my video tutorial HERE helpful!
The other way I'm customizing my quilt is with the message, "One day at a time". I wanted to do something that would be a tangible reminder of the mindset I strive for during challenging times.
The message is actually from my mom who told me at the beginning of last year, when life was feeling impossible and super overwhelming (ie Living on my own for the first time as an adult, divorce, being scammed out of thousands of dollars, and dealing with over 6 months of harassment and stalking), to take one day, one thing at a time. Regularly reminding myself of that has been so helpful and kept me from becoming a total irrational human 😅
My mom helping me move into my apartment last year ❤
This quilt will also be a reminder of how much I've grown in the last year. I'm stronger mentally, more resilient, and a lot happier. I attribute that growth and happiness not only to overcoming recent challenges, but to friends, family, and the quilting community who have encouraged and supported me along the way ❤
There are still days I struggle with a lot of self-doubt. As a business owner it's especially easy to let myself go down that rabbit hole and believe I can't do it. The difference now is I have proof I can do the seemingly impossible. And not only do it, but come out on the other side better because of it. And, of course, to regularly remind myself that it's okay to not have it all figured out. I just need to take it one day, one thing at a time ❤
Thanks for reading! Are you customizing your Just My Type quilt with something meaningful as well? I'd love to hear about it in the comments below!
Update! Here is my finished quilt from the QAL! I've never made a quilt that makes me emotional just looking at it.. This quilt will always be a reminder of overcoming a very difficult period of my life and of my mom who most supported me during it ❤

I love it!! Of course my mind immediately turns dark, and I start picturing this quilt in black and orange, with pumpkins and bats in place of the daisies, and the type saying something like The Horror! Lol
You are positively amazing and a true inspiration to all of us. No one has it all figured out and we all struggle in different ways! The important thing to remember is the “one day at a time”. Sometimes, in my life, it has been an hour at a time, minutes at a time, etc.
Thank you for all you do and bringing your creative spirit to this amazing community!
Every time i am with some or all of my Grandchildren I say to them “YOU BRING ME JOY” and working in a office most of my life, the typewriter is fitting. So, that is what my quilt will say!
All such good reminders and encouragement. Can’t wait to see all the quilts come together with all the beautiful messages.
I’m so happy you made a QAL for this pattern. When I received the spiral book, I put it to the side and was afraid I’d never take the time to do it (you know, adult ADD and all 😁). But this will keep me motivated to finish it!!
Thank you for creating it! All of your patterns are beautiful. I have to keep telling myself to focus on what I w for going before looking at another!!
Love the pattern! Just received it for my birthday. It will be a quilt the kids fight over.😊
You got this! I Iove you, baby girl. ❤️
Thank you so much for designing such a beautiful quilt! I’m excited to be able to personalize it as well. My plan is to use Christmas fabrics with a landscape layout with “joy love peace family Xmas”. And then try to find something holiday-appropriate in lieu of the hearts.
Bought my fabric yesterday and can’t wait to get started!
I love everything you make! (and want to copy it exactly!)
