Top Knot Quilt Pattern + FQ Diagram

Introducing my latest pattern, Top Knot! 

Like many others recently, I’ve hopped on the bow-loving bandwagon. It’s fun seeing bows making a comeback not just in hair accessories but also in home décor, clothing, and more.

 

When I first designed Top Knot, my original plan was to release the pattern with just the Option B version. After spending more time working on the design it started to feel a little unoriginal, so that's when I decided to incorporate bows of different sizes. Managing the math for multiple blocks in one quilt (as always) was challenging, but I eventually figured it out. The Option A version features three various bow blocks – Small (11 ½” x 5 ½”), Medium (11 ½” square), and Large (11 1 /2” x 17 ½”).

I ultimately decided to keep the Option B design in the pattern too (You can thank my mom, @gailzerbe, for that!). Option B is more straightforward in the cutting and assembly department making it a little more beginner-friendly than Option A. Top Knot is recommended for confident beginner quilters and up! It is a traditionally pieced pattern and includes instructions for two throw size quilts: Option A and Option B, both measuring 53 ½” x 65 ½”. Quilt kits for the pattern can be found HERE!

 

If you follow me on Instagram, you might have seen the more colorful version I recently made using 10 different colors. To achieve this, I mocked up the quilt, noted the number of bow parts in each color (bows, bow centers, and bow tails), and cut those corresponding pieces out following the block diagrams in the pattern. Surprisingly, cutting the customized version of this quilt went very smoothly!

For those wanting to make Option B with 10 different fabrics, it’s even easier. Simply take the cutting instructions for Colors 1 – 5 and divide them by 2!
