Today I'm sharing the Best Buds quilt I made for my daughter!

One of the things I love most about the Best Buds pattern is how big the throw size quilt is. It measures a whopping 70 1/2" x 84 1/2". Perfect for those tall, adult children. The pattern also includes instructions for making a single block (14" square), baby size (42 ½” square), and bed size quilt (98 ½" square).
I made the 3-colorway version for my daughter, but the pattern also includes a fat quarter friendly version that uses 30 fat quarter's for the throw size. If picking out 30 different fabrics sounds a little overwhelming, I have a video tutorial you can watch HERE for making the quilt with half yards instead!
My daughter not only picked out the colors for her quilt (more details on that below!), but she also picked out the panto. I think she did a great job picking everything out - Better than I would have done! The quilt was longarmed by Julie Hirt using the Flower Child panto in a medium tone pink thread.
My daughter knew she wanted a pink and burgundy color palette to match the bedding in her bedroom. Originally, we were only going to use solids in her quilt, but then she suggested incorporating the stripe and I'm so glad she did. It adds a little more visual interest to the quilt without totally distracting from the design/color palette.
This quilt is confident beginner friendly (AKA I recommend having at least a couple quilts under your belt before attempting it) so it is pretty straight forward to make. I think the most difficult part are the diagonal seams. Once you get past that part, the rest of the block/quilt assembly goes by pretty quickly! For tips on making the Best Buds blocks, I recommend checking out my video tutorial HERE!
I did try to branch out with a different print for the backing, but it was a struggle finding a print that 1) matched the color palette and 2) was 20-something year old friendly. Because of that, we ended up backing the quilt in the same Riley Blake stripe fabric that's on the front. I love how the print thread in the quilting and the panto design pops against it! The quilt was bound in the Kona Crimson fabric.
And that's all for today's post! If you have any questions about this quilt or the Best Buds pattern, don't hesitate to reach out to me at info@penandpaperpatterns.com!
