Nesting Dolls Expansion Pattern

Nesting Dolls Expansion Pattern

Nesting Dolls Expansion Pattern

What's better than one Nesting Dolls pattern? TWO Nesting Dolls patterns!

The Nesting Dolls Expansion pattern includes instructions for making a third Nesting Dolls block (13 1/2" x 21") and an alternative, confident beginner friendly throw quilt (52 1/2" x 60 1/2"). And just like in the quilt pattern, the expansion pattern also includes an optional FPP pattern for piecing the smaller details of the doll block. If you don't feel 110% confident about your 1/4" seam allowance, I highly recommend going the paper piecing route instead!

I had so much fun making this quilt! It only took me 1 1/2 days to sew the quilt top too 🎉 I'm making a version in prints next (Specifically Cloud 9's Folky Forest collection). Can't wait to share how it turns out! Want to mock up Nesting Dolls in your favorite fabric? You can do that on PreQuilt HERE!
Also, very important to note - You will need the Nesting Dolls quilt pattern to make the two smaller doll blocks in the quilt above. You can find the Nesting dolls quilt pattern HERE OR you can save a little money and buy the PDF Nesting Dolls pattern bundle HERE!
The Nesting Dolls Expansion quilt was longarmed by the @quilted_cactus using the Mirrors #1 panto by Mistletoe Quilting.

Lately I've mostly been using pink or peach threads for the quilting, but for this one I really branched out and had @quilted_cactus use a blue thread. I know, SO brave 😆 I love how the blue pops against the burgundy. I think it's inspired me to be bolder with thread color in future quilts too!
The names of the Kona solids I used for this quilt are:
Color 1 - Blue Bell
Color 2 - Marmalade
Color 3 - Leather
Color 4 - Natural
Color 5 - Curry
Color 6 - Lingerie
Color 7 - Primrose
Color 8 - Coffee
Color 9 - Crimson

I also made a mini quilt using this color palette! All solids are the same except the cheek color. I used Kona Petal for the cheeks in the mini quilt.
I made this mini using the single block cutting instructions and the optional FPP patterns from the Nesting Dolls quilt pattern. I quilted the mini quilt myself (in case it wasn't obvious 🙈) using blue thread and simple grid design. I have it hanging up in the sewing room and it makes me happy every time I look at it.
Here's the throw size quilt from the Nesting Dolls quilt pattern! The pattern also includes instructions for making a baby size version. More details about this pattern can be found HERE!

And if you want to see Nesting Dolls in prints (specifically Ruby Star Society prints) check out my blog post HERE! Pictured above is the amazing quilt my mom, @gailzerbe, made! Even if you're not a fan of purple, you'll become one after seeing her quilt 😍
